About the author Tracy Kidder
Tracy Kidder is an American non-fiction author and journalist. He was born on November 12, 1945, in New York City, and grew up in Oyster Bay, Long Island. Kidder graduated from Harvard University in 1967 with a BA in English, and he later earned an MFA from the University of Iowa’s Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
Kidder is best known for his narrative nonfiction, which combines in-depth reporting, character development, and storytelling techniques to explore complex social issues. His books often focus on people who are marginalized or overlooked in society, such as computer engineers, healthcare workers, and immigrants.

Kidder’s most famous works include “The Soul of a New Machine,” which won the Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction in 1982, and “Mountains Beyond Mountains,” which tells the story of Dr. Paul Farmer and his work fighting infectious diseases in Haiti and other countries. Other notable works by Kidder include “House,” “Old Friends,” “Strength in What Remains,” and “A Truck Full of Money.”
